H.B.the Major Archbishop Mar George Cardinal Alencherry will inaugurate the Conference.

Higher Education Conference
An Educational conference of all the Catholic Colleges under
the management of the Syro-Malabar Church is being convoked at the initiative
of the Major Archbishop Mar George Cardinal Alencherry to coordinate the
activities of the Catholic colleges, to clarify their mission ,to highlight the values that should permeate the world of
Higher Education, to uphold transparency , fairness and justice in the running
of the institutions and to motivate them
to update their teaching methodologies in order to help the students to survive
in this highly competitive world marked
by globalization and I.T .revolution
.Rev.Dr.George
Madathiparampil, the former Principal of S.B. college and the former Vicar General
of the Diocese of Chicago, U.S.A. has
been entrusted with the task of organizing the Conference and asked to be in charge of the newly created
Office of Higher Education.
All the
Bishops, Major Superiors and Provincials
of Religious Congregations, Managers and Principals are invited for the Conference.
The Conference will be held at St. Thomas Mount Kakkanad, on Saturday, June 30th
at 9.30 a.m.
The Conference
will be inaugurated by the Major
Archbishop His Beatitude Mar George
Cardinal Alencherry . H.G.Mar Andrews Thazhath
will preside. Hon.Supreme Court
Justice(Retd.) Mr. Cyriac Joseph will give the key-note speech. H.G. Mar Joseph
Powathil, the Chairman of the Inter-Church Council for Education will talk on the relevance of the Church Involvement in the
field of Higher Education. Dr .Babu
Joseph, the former V.C. of Cochin University will speak on the need for the granting of autonomy to the colleges of Kerala. Dr. Ruble Raj, the Principal
of Marian college, Kuttikanam, will talk
about the principles and values guiding Catholic colleges. Mr .Abraham Kurien, I.P.S, the Retd. D.G.P. of U.P and a Member
of the Civil Service Interview Board of the U.P.S.C .,will speak on the
Development of Career Orientation in General Education. The session on
Partnerships with foreign Universities, Improvement of teaching methodologies, Development of International
students/Faculty exchange programs, Collaboration among the Dept.s of colleges in Kerala, Creation of Research Centers, Establishment of leadership development centers at colleges,
Feasibility of the founding of a private
university to develop new initiatives in higher Education et c will be moderated by Dr .Babu Joseph, the former V.C. of Cochin University ,Dr. Stephen
Mathews, the Former Dean of XIME, Bangalore and Mr. Vince Marin of Chicago.

Madathiparampil, the Secretary for the Office of Higher Education will welcome
the gathering and Dr. Raju George, Principal of Mary Matha college, Manathavady
will propose the Vote of Thanks. Dr.Beena Manoj, Professor of English, St. Teresa’s
college will coordinate the Conference.
The
conference will make a strong pea to the Government of Kerala to grant autonomy to the private
colleges that have established a good
academic track record in order to give a great fillip to Higher Education in
Kerala. The Conference seeks to emphasize that bold initiatives on the part of
the Govt. such as the granting of autonomy and the starting of new courses will
change the face of Higher Education in Kerala. The conference will also urge
the managements to update the existing teaching methods in order to prepare the
students to survive in the present -day
highly competitive world marked by globalization and IT revolution. The mission of service and commitment
to the poor and the marginalized sector of the student community will also be
greatly emphasized at the conference.
